I think it is great that you use different background color to express two parts of your big idea:happiness with colorful background and sadness with grey color.
I think that the message you are trying to convey is really clear. Great division of ideas by color use. You can really tell that the top is sadness and being lonely. The bottom shows happy families and happy relationships. The ring being cut in the middle really ties everything together with the idea of divorce. Great job, but it could use more blending and selection use.
I like the comparison of monotone and colors it allows me to draw a line between both sides and it helps me see the point you are trying to convey.
